Hello horse lovers! It’s time for another one of my behind-the-scenes looks at life here at Mercy Spring Ranch.
I can’t help but notice that sometimes I get strange looks from people when they see me chewing on another horse’s withers. (For those of you who don’t know, the withers are the ridge between the shoulder bones of a horse). We do this a lot in the spring when we are shedding our winter coat (but we still do it all year long, because it feels so good).
Connor and I do this a lot with each other. It’s literally what humans mean when they say, “You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.” I like to call it Male Bonding when Connor and I groom one another.
This is all fine in theory, and I do enjoy withering. The problem comes when I get overwhelmed by the amount of hair that ends up in my mouth after chewing the withers with Connor. There are piles of hair in the Arena where I have had to spit it out of my mouth. This is the reason why we affectionately call Connor the Hairy Yak!
Now when Connor approaches me for a little wither time, you will see me turn and run. It’s not that I don’t love the guy, but a horse can only take so much hair in the mouth before it gets in the way of more important tasks (like eating constantly!). Hopefully the Yak doesn’t take it personally.
Most of the excitement at the ranch is now centered on the upcoming Heirloom Plant Sale, to be held at the ranch on Saturday, March 19th from 9am to 2pm, rain or shine. There are so many different types of tomato plants available that I cannot keep track of all of them. I would eat them all if I could, but my stomach is a bit sensitive.
As I said in my recent news flash, anyone purchasing a plant is eligible to take a selfie with yours truly. What’s not to love — some nutritious tomato plants, and a picture of the most adorable horse on the ranch. I am surprised that folks are not lining up already in anticipation of this incredible event.
If that is not enough excitement, HomeSown Flowers will be selling their wares during the sale. The Fire Pit will be going all day to provide a warm spot for people to gather around while they recover from all the fun. And did I mention time with MOI??!
Well, I better wrap this up so that I can make final preparations for Saturday. I hope to see you there!
Happy Trails,
