Our first of two heirloom plant sales for the 2022 season took place last Saturday, March 19th, and it was a ROARING success! Thank you to everyone who came out to purchase their favorite heirlooms from our huge selection. We began the sale with tables full, under the tables packed with extras, and 4 greenhouses filled to the brim with orders and more plants to restock the tables with. By the end of the day our greenhouses were nearly empty and the tables sparse. We got to see old friends, catch up on people’s garden plans, share the progress we’ve made on the facility, answer questions and introduce many new folks to what we do at the ranch. Gimli shared the limelight with Ladyhawke and Connor as best he could, and the chickens stood watch over the Poultry Palace while visitors marveled at their beauty and bought up all their colorful eggs.
We can’t forget the LONG hours of preparation our amazing volunteers poured into making this sale such a success. From those who spent several hours since February transplanting and filling orders, caring for the thousands of seedings, getting the word out about our plants and sale dates, to those who spent the week and day before boxing up orders, erecting tents and tables, hanging signs, and making the place beautiful for our guests. Most of those brave volunteers came back to help at the sale and clean up after the gates closed. We can’t say enough about our amazing volunteers!
We also want to thank our neighbors at HomeSown Flowers for bringing Buttercup the Flower Truck over, stocked full of their stunning bouquets for people to purchase. Buttercup was completely cleaned out by the end of the sale and many folks went home with the freshest, prettiest flowers to brighten their homes!
What’s next, you ask? In the heirloom realm we are hard at work to get the rest of our seedlings transplanted for the second sale coming up on April 16th! We will have a much bigger selection of peppers and eggplants at the April sale, plus a whole new batch of tomatoes and more, so mark your calendars now! We also have a small selection of plants left over that will be going into gallon pots this week that are HUGE and can still be purchased for $4 if you pick them up before they go into the gallon pots. Check out our Facebook page to see our upcoming post about which varieties we have available.
Don’t forget to check back on our website and Facebook page for updates on everything heirloom, including more about our plants under the heading “Tomato Time” on our website. There, you can also find the extensive list of plants we are growing this year. We also have our Tomato Tasting listed under our “Upcoming Events”! You won’t want to miss it!
Happy Gardening! We look forward to seeing you all again on April 16th!
