Hello my friends. It is time to share a few thoughts about life at the ranch this past week. The warmer weather was getting to me a bit (I am more of a spring guy than a fan of the summer heat). I was getting bored, so I knocked over my saddle stand. In my defense, Mo left it within my nose range, so it was fair game. The stand served no purpose for me, so it had to go for a tumble.
I fear that my love affair with Veterinarian Dr. Kami is about to be over. She has put me on a new diet. It appears that yours truly has been hitting the hay a little harder than I should, resulting in a plumper horse around the ranch. The way I see it, now there’s more Gimli to love!
It’s almost like my human caretakers are trying to starve me into submission. They try to “fluff up” the hay to make it look like more, but my stomach knows when it is being deprived. When I am let out of my paddock, I go on an immediate search for fresh grass or other plants to nibble on. A nice carrot or apple would taste especially fine right about now (hint hint).
To liven things up here at the ranch, I decided to teach Connor a new trick. I have recently mastered the art of biting and banging on the arena gate in order to get the attention of Mo or John. Now Connor and I can do it together, to double the sound, and hopefully get a faster response from the Blacks when we wish for them to do our bidding. If they increase my food allotment, I may show a little mercy and stop banging on my feeder as well.
As you can see from the pictures below, the new sessions with the children have begun. It is a thrill to have these youngsters groom me and ride me around the arena. Some of them get to spend time building things with John in the shop. Many thanks to all the volunteer greeters and session leaders who help make this time possible.
Well, that’s all for now. I hope to see many of you this Saturday from 9am to 2pm at the ranch for the Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale (rain or shine). Be sure to swing by, say hello, and pose for a selfie (assuming that I have not wasted away from hunger and there’s nothing left of me after another week on this diet!).
Happy Trails
