Hello, O faithful followers. It is time for another installment of my reflections on life here at Mercy Spring Ranch. There is so much going on each week, that I hardly know where to start!
I begin this week with a question from a young reader. She asks, “I just read about your experience of Floating (Issue 6). Did it hurt? Are you afraid of going to the dentist, like many humans?”
Ah, my young friend, that is a good question. Unlike the other horses on this ranch, I actually enjoy the visits from Dr. Kami when she comes to the ranch. While I am not crazy about anyone poking around in my mouth, Dr. Kami does so with gentle care and concern.
As for the pain aspect, I will let you in on a little secret. Before the Floating procedure begins, I receive a little shot of what I call my “sleepy meds.” By the time I am back to my normal self, the procedure is over, and I am ready to chow down on some fresh grass. It’s as though nothing happened at all.
Just so you don’t think that I stand around all day and eat, I have attached a picture below of yours truly playing ball. Not only is this good exercise for me (a horse has to watch his figure, after all!), but it is also a lot of fun.
Not every horse enjoys playing with the ball as much as I do. In fact, there is one horse on the ranch (I’m looking at you, Connor) who tends to be a bit skittish around the ball.
When I am in a playful (some say mischievous) mood, I will nudge the ball towards Connor, and watch him scoot away from it. I actually think that Connor believes that the ball will roll over him and crush him! If you want to see a horse with a smirk on his face, look at me after I have sent the ball in Connor’s direction. Good times!
Well, that’s all for now. It’s a little over a week until the next Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale on April 16th from 9am to 2pm. I hope to see you then. Be sure to stop by and get a selfie with me!
Happy Trails,
