Greetings my dear Friends. I am taking this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
As I was singing away in my paddock last week, I found myself humming that seasonal classic, Jingle Bells. When I got to the line, Oh what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh, I got to thinking — Why aren’t horses represented more in Christmas Carols??! Lambs and cows are seen in many manger scenes, but where are the horses??!
I went online to see if there are any additional carols that mention horses. I was greatly disappointed! Sure, the song Jingle Bell Rock mentions horses, but that is not encouraging. There is even a site that has an Equestrian Christmas Carol Collection, which substitutes the words from traditional carols with new parody lyrics that focus on horses. Alas, no unique horse Christmas Carols.
But there are signs of hope! A producer in Norway has just released a song by a British songwriter entitled The Horse Beneath the Tree. Perhaps the tide is turning. There may be a growing interest in Equine Christmas Carols. After my new CD drops, I may record a Christmas album with horse-friendly carols (composed by yours truly, of course!).
I will be taking the next two weeks off from writing my blog so as to better celebrate the holidays. I have to keep my vacation plans a secret, lest the paparazzi get wind of it and my countless fans swarm my hidden destination. I wish you and yours all the best. See you in 2023!
Happy Trails,
