Hello faithful readers. I’m glad that you have joined me to ease into 2023 by reading the latest issue of the Gimli Gazette.
It is good to be back in my paddock. I slipped away for a couple of weeks (when Miss Mo was not looking) to my vacation hideaway. I can’t say where it is (those nasty paparazzi would be all over it in a second!), but let’s just say that I am sporting a new tan and making it look good (or sick, as my younger fans like to say).
Speaking of real sickness, the herd took a few hits over the past month. I’m glad that we have Dr. Kami on speed dial! Ladyhawke is slowly on the road to recovery, and we’re still not sure what Connor had over the holidays. I attribute my own good health to careful hygiene, a strong constitution, and stellar breeding which has made me into the horse that I am today.
I still have to keep my distance from Hawke and Connor, since they may accidently share some nasty bug with me. It makes for lonely times out in the arena. Fortunately, some of the volunteers have taken pity on me and are spending extra time keeping me amused.
One such former staffer travelled many miles just to be with ME! Well, maybe she spent a little time with Miss Mo and Mr. John, but I know where her true heart lies and what brought her back to MSR to visit. We had many tender moments together as we reunited as horse and rider.
Some of you have asked if I have made any New Year Resolutions. Actually, there is nothing that I would change about myself, so the short answer is no. I certainly have many goals for 2023 that I would like to complete (like finishing my new novel, music CD, and paddock remodel); but as for me personally, why mess with perfection??!
I find myself missing the children during these cold, rainy months. I often wonder if they know how much I care for them. I love their smiling faces as they pet me. With each week they get more comfortable riding me, as their initial fears of my size and temperment slowly fade away. Hopefully our growing trust of one another will transfer over into their learning to feel more comfortable with their human family and friends.
That will do it for this posting. I hope all of you have made the transition to 2023 smoothly. I look forward to all of our adventures in this new year.
Happy Trails,
Gimli January 6, 2023
