Greetings my friends, and welcome to another edition of the Gimli Gazette, your inside look into the wonders that are to be found at Mercy Spring Ranch. I enjoy posting (a little horse pun there) each week on a variety of topics.
The good news is that Ladyhawke is no longer contagious, and she is back out playing with the boys in the arena. She still has some lingering symptoms of pigeon fever, but she is well enough to rejoin the herd in our daily activities.
What has been strange (at least from my perspective) is the behavior of our newest guest, Nutmeg the goat. She seems to spend most of her time on the roof of her house. I understand that having a view from the high ground is strategically advantageous, but it seems unusual for her not to want to hang out in her paddock. Goats are strange creatures, indeed!
I had a special friend come all the way from Washington State to visit with me. We have spent many years in the past getting to know one another. I know that she misses me, so I set apart some time in my busy schedule to enjoy her company in the arena. I did allow her to spend a few brief moments with Miss Mo and Mr. John, but I know that the real reason for her visit was to clock more Gimli time.
The plant sale on Saturday was a big success. I was amazed that tomatoes were so popular with ranch families. I find them to be acidic and not very tasty, but humans seem to like them. I like how they sound as I squish them under my hooves; but other than that, I am happy to live a tomato-free lifestyle.
Thanks to everyone who helped out at the sale. Many of you stopped by the paddocks to get a selfie with me. Each of the herd was cleaned up nicely and well-groomed for the photo ops, but I must humbly observe that my own styling was a highlight of the day. Who ever thought that a Haffie could look so stunning!
I was a little concerned that our new lamb (Noel) was stealing the show during the sale. Ranch staff led her around the ranch to meet all the visitors. Granted, I was busy catching up on a few naps that day, which made me unavailable to work the crowd as usual; but when you have a equine fashion model who is also an international recording star on site, you should make him available to all of his adoring fans. Just saying!
Well, that’s all for this week. Sessions will be starting soon, and the ranch will be filled with children once again. I hope to see you all in the weeks to come.
Happy Trails,
Gimli March 20, 2023
