Hello my friends, and welcome to another edition of the Gimli Gazette. This is your faithful correspondent Gimli Black, ready to let you see behind the curtain of Mercy Spring Ranch.
The children are back, and sessions have resumed on the ranch. And with the return of the children, so also arrives lots of questions from the kiddos who have inquiries for me.
One young girl who filled out an Ask Gimli card asks, “Who is your favorite, Noel or Nutmeg?” For those of you who don’t know, Noel is our new lamb, and Nutmeg is our new (temporary) goat. They have been competing for the attention of visitors to the ranch (not that there’s any competition for attention when it come to me and my adoring fans!).
If you ask a parent if they have a favorite child, they will wisely say that they love all of their children equally. This guideline applies to me and my animal friends. In the same way that I do not favor one chicken over another, I choose not to favor the lamb over the goat, or vice versa. Both critters have been a delightful addition to the ranch.
Some visitors have asked if I have been jealous of all the attention given to Noel, the new lamb, since she is very people friendly. I would respond by letting the (photo) evidence speak for itself. Below are two pictures that were taken last Saturday.
In this first one, you can see me welcoming Noel with all of the equine herd.
In this second shot, I am speaking privately with Noel, explaining life on the ranch to her.
These photos show that I am welcoming to all animals (and humans) who consider this ranch to be their home. This does not mean that Noel and Nutmeg will automatically join my band on my next CD. Noel talks a lot, but that does not always translate into musical talent.
It was a great turnout at the Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale last Saturday. Thank you to all of the volunteers who made that day so special. It was great to see so many friends that I have not seen since the start of winter last year. I will be looking for all of your selfies with me on Facebook.
That’s all for this posting. I look forward to more stories from upcoming sessions, and more questions from the children.
Happy Trails,
Gimli April 10, 2023
