Greetings my friends, and welcome to another edition of the Gimli Gazette, where truth and wisdom embrace through the insights of yours truly, Gimli Black.
I begin this posting with a question from a youngster. They write, “What does it feel like being a horse?” That is a very good question. I wonder what you would say if I asked you what it feels like to be a human. It is certainly worth pondering.
To be a horse is to feel the wind blowing through your mane as you race across a field. It is to feel strength in every cell of you body as you pull a wagon or climb a hill. It is to know with every fiber of your being that you are a magnificent creature in God’s creation.
Every horse has its own personality, which makes us interesting to get to know. Many humans find us to be therapeutic, as our mere presence can be healing to children and adults alike. We can be very calming for people who have had a stressful day.
Horses are very dependable and truthful. Perhaps you have heard of the expression, straight from a horse’s mouth? If you want to know what is really going on, ask a horse! I cannot help but think that this is the reason why so many of you read my blog. It is becuase you cannot trust any other sites on the Internet!
Horses are very easy to please. If you want to win our affection, just offer us a carrot. If you want a friend for life, scratch us on our withers. If you need a companion for a walk through the woods, we are always at your beck and call.
Horses are great listeners. It may not seem like it when we are distracted by a plastic bag blowing past us in the wind, but you do have our complete attention. We watch your every move (not only to make sure that you are not a predator, but because we really do like you).
We can become good friends. You can tell us all of your troubles, and we will be there for you. We welcome you into our paddocks at a moment’s notice, and there is always a place in our hearts for you.
I know that this is a long answer to a short question, but there are many joys in being a horse that I have not even discussed. I could mention how our hearing is greater than humans (I can hear your heart beat from four feet away), or how my sense of smell makes me appreciate apples more than you can imagine. I can sense when you are afraid, and I will nudge you to show you affection and calm your anxious heart.
Each day I let Gimli be Gimli, and the world is a better place because of it. I will do all that I can, my young friend, to make your life a little better by letting you ride me on the ranch. We truly were created for one another.
Well that’s all for this week. I love being a horse, and so appreciate your question. Keep them coming!
Happy Trails,
Gimli March 15, 2023
