Hello my friends, and welcome to another edition of the Gimli Gazette, where I share my insights regarding life at Mercy Spring Ranch.
The big news this week is the arrival of Chloe, a Quarter Horse mare with a history of being a professional sorting horse. For those of you who don’t know what a sorting horse is, this is a horse who specializes in moving cows from one pen to another. Chloe is fifteen years old, so she will bring a lot of valuable experience to the ranch.
The first question that everyone is asking me is about the possibility of a future romance between me and Chloe. Given that we are both professionals (I was a professional Trail Horse prior to coming to the ranch), many assume that we must be a perfect match for each other. Since Ladyhawke has kept me in the Friend Zone for all these years, I must still be on the market.
It is much too early for my heart to move on from Ladyhawke. Besides, I do not know much about Chloe yet. I naturally did a full background check on her when she first arrived (I do the vetting of all new arrivals at the ranch). So far, no red flags have turned up, but time will tell if she is worthy to join the MSR herd. I will not allow just any horse to spend time with the children!
I should probably take a moment to address the popsicle issue that has gone viral on Facebook. Someone posted a video of a horse eating a popsicle, so naturally folks started asking if I would eat one too. On a hot day at the ranch, any frozen item is tempting.
Actually, the “Pony Pops” that were used in the video were much too small for my liking. I figure that a gallon bucket should have been used to make each one. I am thinking of starting my own line of horse popsicles (patent pending) which I will market online.
And speaking of Facebook, another posting showed a cartoon of a horse stepping on a hose to stop the water (as a prank) while the handler was trying to shampoo it. The poster asked if such horse behavior reminded folks of anyone. I don’t have to tell you whose name was mentioned right away. My reputation for innocent (yet humorous) stunts precedes me! It is a badge of honor which I proudly wear.
The June/July session continues to go well. As expected, the children are falling madly in love with the new baby goats. Their energy and enthusiasm for life is a welcome addition to the ranch.
That’s all for this posting. I hope you all stay cool in the weeks to come.
Happy Trails,
Gimli June 21, 2023
