Hello again my friends, and welcome to another edition of the Gimli Gazette, where truth speaks to power through the observations of your faithful correspondent, Gimli Black.
By now everyone should have seen the new haircut on Noel, our ranch lamb. Miss Mo was able to borrow a pair of shears and do the job herself. You can see the results on the MSR Facebook page. I have my own personal stylist and horse groomer on retainer, so I always look my best for your selfies and the covers of equine fashion magazines.
And speaking of Facebook, one commenter on a recent Gimli Gazette posting (issue fifty-nine) wondered what Chloe (our newest horse) thought about my 3am music sessions. I am a humble horse, but I could not help noticing her hooves tapping to the music that I played on my feeder. She has a real eye for talent, as she continually asks for encore performances. I guess that some of my biggest fans are right here in my neighboring paddocks.
Chloe was excited to get her first shampoo and set (along with hair braiding) at the ranch last week. It was very refreshing for her in this Central Valley heat. She also deliberately had a new shoe put on BACKWARDS, so as to give her more support as she wanders about the arena. The children just think that she is making a fashion statement with this new look.
We had the birth of a new chick on the ranch last week. First-time papa Rooster Fred is the proud parent. I will be very happy to see this youngster join the rest of the chickens in the coop at some future date.
The parents naturally wanted me to be the godparent, but I had to decline. My time is quite limited. They also wanted to name it after me; but in order to preserve the integrity (and brand!) of the Gimli name, my lawyers decided to nip that idea in the bud before it got filed at the courthouse.
Everyone is carefully watching the tomatoes growing on the ranch in this heat. Extreme temperatures may cause the plants to drop their blossoms in an attempt to conserve energy. We want to make sure that we will have a full harvest for our eighth annual Heirloom Tomato Tasting on August 19th. Details are on our website.
Well that is all for this posting. I hope you are all staying cool this summer. Even the children are happy not being out unprotected in this hot sun. That means more cool baths for me!
Happy Trails,
Gimli July 17, 2023
