Greetings my friends, and welcome to another exciting edition of the Gimli Gazette. I know that this is the high point of your week (as it should be), so I will do my best not to disappoint you.
This week has been a humbling time for yours truly. It started recently with the arrival of Chloe. The children have been pouring out all of their affection on this new arrival to the herd. At first, I was a little jealous — but now I am happy for her interactions with the kiddos.
Then competition came from the two new baby goats. Before their arrival, the children loved hanging out with all the horses. Now in all their free time, the munchkins race off to play with the goats. The herd has noticed that these youngsters have their attention divided with so many animal friends to play with.
Fortunately I have not lost all of my fans. One young girl last week remained solidly on Team Gimli. In fact, she could not tear herself away from me the whole time she was on the ranch. Not even the goats could lure her away with their siren calls. She helped me get through a challenging week with her love and affection for me.
Given the severe heat lately, the horses have been “camping out” at night. We’ve been staying in our paddocks in the daytime to avoid the hot sun, and then at night we hang out under the stars in either the arena or the pasture. It has given us a lot of time to bond with one another while gazing into the night skies.
Since the heat has cut down on our riding, this has meant more time for cool baths and grooming. After one of my recent baths, the staff took time out to braid my tail This was a sharp look for me — one that will probably be featured on the cover of an upcoming equine magazine. I make braiding look good!
We are coming up on the final session block for 2023, which runs during August and September. The children are all registered, so the ranch is good to go for their time with the horses. This year really went by quickly. I treasure all the new friendships I have made with the children this year.
I hope to see many of you at the upcoming Heirloom Tomato Tasting on Saturday, August 19th from 10am to 2pm. There will be a lot of instruction on how best to grow tomatoes, as well as the chance to taste the fruit of our labor. It’s a great time for one and all.
Well that’s all for this posting. I’m glad that the worst of the heat is behind us. I can’t wait for the cooler fall temperatures to fill the ranch.
Happy Trails,
Gimli July 24, 2023
