Hello again my friends, and welcome to another edition of the Gimli Gazette, what wise people read to become even wiser!
I begin this episode with a written comment from the mother of one of our session children. She writes, “Gimli, your ranch is my kiddo’s happy place. I’m so thankful for all of you.”
First of all, I appreciate her observation about who truly owns and runs Mercy Spring Ranch (YOUR ranch). I don’t usually flaunt this fact, but it is good to see that it is obvious to one and all regarding who oversees all ranch operations.
I am touched that MSR is your child’s happy place. We want this to be a happy place for all the children. We appreciate your thanks, and are also thankful to God for making this ministry possible.
The new session is going very well. I am meeting lots of new children. I had a special encounter last week with one young girl. At first, we were nervous around each other. But then she started grooming me, and we both relaxed. I gave her one of my patented Gimli Grins of delight, and in return I received a warm smile of affection from her.
The mosquitoes continue to be bad this summer. All of the herd and human staff are carrying around bug bites on our necks and legs. Sometimes I wear a mask and cape to keep them off of me, but those little buggers find a way to bite me just the same. Hopefully they will find another feeding ground and leave us alone.
As I mentioned in Issue 61 of the Gimli Gazette, these hot days mean that the horses get to spend our nights out in the arena. I have been paired up with Ladyhawke as we spend sweet moments together staring up into the star-filled skies.
I can’t help but think that Miss Mo is delighted that I am away from my paddock feeder for my 3am practice sessions. Little does she know that I am busy working out acoustic arrangements for my whole repertoire of musical compositioins, using the arena fences for my instrumentation. When I return to my paddock after the heat subsides, I will be filling the ranch with my power ballad masterpieces.
I hope to see many of you this Saturday at our annual Heirloom Tomato Tasting. Local businesses will be joining Mercy Spring Ranch to celebrate all things tomato. There will also be an instructive Garden Talk to help you grow your own. The fun runs from 10am to 2pm. As always, I will be waiving my usual sitting fee and offering free selfies during this event. Go ahead and post them on the MSR Facebook page with my blessing!
Happy Trails,
Gimli August 14, 2023
