Hello my friends. You have just entered the Gimli Zone, a safe space for people seeking truth about life at Mercy Spring Ranch. If you want to find out what is really going on in the world, ask a horse!
The herd had an interesting encounter with one of the volunteers at the ranch this week. As a published author, she decided to read one of her recent manuscripts to the three of us. I cannot help but think that she was hoping to get some free equine feedback with this little focus group that she pulled together.
We were having none of it! Literary agents representing various authors around the world pay dearly for our assessment of their clients’ works in progress. This writer was hoping for a free critique without even a horse cookie crossing our lips. Needless to say, we moved on quickly from the reading circle.
I could not help but feel sorry for her. As an established poet and literary scholar, I was in a position to offer her some professional advice that would certainly improve her writings. I know that she came to me seeking wisdom and guidance on how best to proceed with her work. Perhaps if she returns with the appropriate payment of apples and cookies, her time with me will be rewarded.
And speaking of rewarding times, Miss Mo will be speaking next Thursday, January 4th, at the Escalon United Methodist Church about Heirloom Tomatoes. The talk begins at 1 pm as part of the Escalon Farmington Garden Club. There will be snacks and door prizes as well. I have heard her give talks like this one on the ranch. It is not to be missed!
The goats on the ranch had a thrill last week as they were driven around the property on Bart, one of our utility vehicles. I have not seen them this excited since they got their first taste of Goat-I-Os. They loved the sensation of the wind in their faces. I hope you get to see them experience this ride at some future date.
Mr. John is working on a new opening picture for the Gimli Gazette. Some folks have asked me to design a new one (not that they would ever tire of my pretty face in any context!). Look for this new look on my blog in 2024.
Well that’s it for 2023. It has been a great year at Mercy Spring Ranch. I treasure every moment that I had with the children. What sweet memories! I can’t wait for the new sessions to begin.
Happy Trails,
Gimli December 29, 2023
