Hello again! A lot has been happening in the MSR Neigh-borhood (note the brilliant horse humor with that Neigh pun) this past week. It started with an unprovoked act of violence perpetrated against me. I was out in the arena, minding my own business (thinking about a book deal and possible movie rights through my agent) when my paddock neigh-bor (there I go again!) Connor snuck up behind me in the arena and gave me a nip on my rear end.
I immediately thought of giving him a swift kick in response to this invasion of my personal space, but I held back. I decided to turn the other cheek (assuming that he wouldn’t bite me there, as well!). It must be the Sermon on the Mount values practiced here at Mercy Spring Ranch that have rubbed off on me.
I freely forgave Connor. He must have read my blog last week, where I complained about his hair ending up in my water barrel. It probably triggered him. Connor and I are good now.
Since we are discussing forgiveness, I should probably apologize to one of the new horse handlers. She loosely tied me to the fence, trusting me to stay put for my shedding. Seeing an opportunity for fun, I fearlessly broke free and had a little romp around the arena. I did not mind that my halter and lead rope were still on me. The taste of freedom was intoxicating! It took a while for the handler to catch me. Freedom never felt so good!
And speaking of amazing courage, last week was our regularly scheduled time of vaccination and worming. I behaved exceptionally well, in keeping with my training. I admit that the volunteer giving me nose kisses during the treatment also helped to keep me calm.
But a certain mare on the ranch (I won’t mention any names — *cough* Hawke *cough*) objected to this important medicinal treatment. Given this contrast in behavior to my own, I think we now know who the model horse is on the ranch!
Looking down for the moment, I notice that my hooves could use a little upkeep. I should work in a regular mani-pedi into my routine. I will have my assistant schedule bi-monthly appointments. It is important that I look my best for the children.
And speaking of children, I am pleased with all the sign-ups for the upcoming April/May session block. It gives me great joy to serve the little ones who visit me at the ranch.
That’s all for this week. Thank you for all the kind birthday wishes, and for faithfully reading my posts.
Happy Trails,
