Hello my friends. It’s time for another installment of your favorite blog, the Gimli Gazette. I have a lot to report on this week, so let’s get to it!
Last Saturday we had an outreach team from the Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Modesto come to the ranch and help us out with many chores that needed to get done. As you can see from all their smiling faces, they had a good time serving at the ranch. We had a full list of tasks to get done, and they finished them all. They even had some time left over to play with me!
I got a question this week from a young girl in one of our current sessions. She writes, “Who is your favorite horse friend, and who is your favorite human friend? Also, I sadly noticed that you are looking super skinny lately. I’m sorry for you.”
Thank you for your insightful comment, my child. Alas, if only Mo and John had read your comment card. They would have confirmation of the tragic consequences of this diet that they have put me on. Perhaps they might read this issue of the Gazette and forsake their calorie-deprivation ways by giving me more hay each day. Soon I may be only skin and bones (and thus unable to carry children upon my back!).
As for your question, it is hard to pick favorites, be they horse or human. Hawke is the leader of our herd, so she commands my respect. Connor is my play partner, so I turn to him when I need a good laugh or to have some fun. I cannot pick one over the other. The same is true for humans. Mo and John take good care of me (when they are not starving me!), the session leaders are very kind, and I love all the children who visit me. It is hard to have favorites when everyone is so good to me (but you have a special place in my heart!).
I thought that I had put an end to all the counterfeit Gimli bootleg merchandise hitting the market (see last week’s Gimli Gazette, Number Fourteen for the full story), but I was wrong! As you can see from the picture below, an eager fan tried to get me to autograph a knock-off Gimli pillow:
It did not have the official MSR label, so I could tell that it was a fake. As you can see from the look on my face, I was not amused with her attempt for me to validate this fraudulent pillow with my signature hoof print. She probably wanted to increase its value with my autograph, and then flip it for a tidy profit on eBay. I WAS NOT FOOLED!
Well, that’s all for this week. Thanks again to the REACH team for helping out at the ranch last week. Your efforts really make a difference in the lives of children.
Happy Trails,
Gimli June 13, 2022
