There are MANY ways to get involved at Mercy Spring Ranch as a volunteer! We have something for everyone, and the list is ever-changing and growing as we grow. Here are a few ways to get involved:
Get Involved
Volunteering at the Ranch
Saturday volunteer workdays
Open to anyone and most frequently offered throughout the year, our Saturday volunteer workdays are a perfect place to get involved and leave your “fingerprints” on the ranch! Our workdays typically go from 9am to noon, leaving you the rest of your day to do other things. A few days, to a week in advance, we post on our Facebook page and here on our upcoming events the details of projects we will be tackling for the day. If you see something you are interested in, let us know you will be joining us and jump in when you arrive! Do not forget, we require a release form for everyone coming to the ranch. You can print the form out here, fill it out and bring it with you the first time you come to the ranch.
Bring a water bottle, work gloves and sun protection (if needed). Any other specifics will be listed in our details for the day.
Children are welcome to join in, too! Just be sure the work for the day is appropriate for their age and that they are with you at all times. They must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian and have a completed release form. Please inform us when you are signing up that your child will be joining you.
Sorry, no dogs are allowed on the ranch.
Volunteer Groups
Do you have a club, church group, or other organized group you would like to have volunteer for a special project at the ranch? We have a great list of special projects for several skill levels and abilities. Tell us about your group and we will work together to pick the perfect project for the day!
Ranch Events
We have a few big events and several smaller events that require all kinds of volunteers to make them run smoothly. Whether it is our Tomato tasting, two spring plant sales, Ranch Family Dinner, movie nights, worship nights, or hosting groups at the ranch, it takes a village to make everything run smoothly. Let us know if you would like to be a part of our event crew and we can keep you informed on upcoming events.
Horse Handler Training
For those 18 and over who would like to volunteer in any capacity that puts you in proximity to our horses, we require all horse volunteers to go through and pass testing in our horse handler training. Training is offered in our off-season, usually from January through March. Horse handlers learn the basics of haltering, grooming, leading, horse behavior and safety with our equines. Those with current horse experience will most likely clear testing for our guidelines quickly, but it’s imperative for safety and the health of our horses that all horse related volunteers go through this training.
Session Leaders and Greeters (Also known as “Volunteer Staff”)
Our volunteer staff are the folks who work directly with the families and children who come to the ranch for sessions. All our session leaders and greeters are thoroughly vetted, submit to background checks and fingerprinting and attend training for their roles. They must be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ in every area of their lives. They are required to read and sign our statement of faith and shadow a current session leader or greeter for a minimum of one session block before being scheduled solo in those roles. Session leaders must also complete horse handler training and shadow both a greeter and a leader for one session block.
Most importantly, we need to get to know you. We take the care and safety of and ministry to our ranch families very seriously. If you feel the Lord may be calling you to be a leader or greeter, get involved at the ranch, get to know our crew, and help them get to know you. Allow God to work in placing you when and where He desires.
It is our hope and desire that families, volunteers, supporters, visitors, and community members who come to the ranch will find a place to belong, experience the love of Christ, and the hope, peace, and healing only He can provide.
Annual Fundraisers
As a non-profit, fundraising is continual and essential to keep the ranch going. While we may add new fundraisers as opportunities arise, we currently have two annual fundraisers we plan to continue for years to come. One is our Heirloom Plant Sale, and the other is our Christmas Crafts. 100% of all our fundraising income goes directly to support the ranch’s programs.
- Heirloom Plant Sale: With over 100 tomato varieties, 40 pepper varieties and 10 eggplant varieties, our plant list is intense! Our plant list is made available February 1st for pre-orders. We hold two plant sales every spring in March and April where anyone can come and purchase available plants from our tables. Click here to see our most recent plant list.
- Christmas Crafts: Handmade Horsehead wreaths, horseshoe Christmas trees and horseshoe nail ornaments are made to order beginning in late October through December. Check the Events page to see sample photos and prices once we get closer to the holidays.
- Hot Sauce: We make 6-8 types of hot sauce from the peppers we grow, ranging from no heat to “light your world on fire!”. Our sauces are made in small batches and generally available around Christmas time. Check the Events page for more information and prices once we get closer to the holidays.
Other Ways to Support the Ranch
In addition to volunteering and participating in the previously mentioned fundraisers, you can directly support the ranch by donating any of the below items that the Ranch needs. This list is continually being updated as needs are filled or added. You can also support the ranch financially by sending a monetary donation for one or more of the items listed below, or just to help with the Ranch’s ongoing operating costs. Just note on your check, or on-line donation through PayPal or Venmo, what you’d like your donation to go towards. Checks can be mailed to the Ranch: 21819 McBride Rd. Escalon, CA 95320.
