Let’s face it, life is hard. This world is broken in so many ways. From daily bumps to unimaginable atrocities, we are surrounded by the fragments and fall-out of “things gone wrong.” There is no magic formula or program that will fix what is broken. Here at the ranch, we know this firsthand. We also know and are convinced that the love and redemptive power of Jesus Christ is the only hope for this broken world and every hurting soul. The ranch exists as an avenue to bring this hope to children and families.
Our Sessions Program
Loving People to Life
Session Leaders
Our session leaders love Jesus and kiddos! They are also experienced in the handling of our horses and well versed in our safety guidelines. The goal of our session leaders is to build bridges of trust that allow them to teach truths about God’s love and our world. Horses are uniquely equipped to help make those connections that stick for a lifetime, and session leaders are always looking for those opportunities in their sessions.
Session Greeters
Session greeters are the backbone of our session program! Each family that comes to the ranch for a session is assigned a greeter that is at their disposal for the duration of the session. Greeters love Jesus, pray for and with our families, answer questions, relay information to session leaders and keep everything in a session running smoothly, and that’s just for starters! Just as our session leaders are the hands and feet of Jesus to session kiddos, our greeters are the hands and feet of Jesus to the entire family.
Session activities
Sessions are structured for the unique needs and interests of each child. While most of our sessions at the ranch involve horses, there are many other things children do in sessions besides ride. In horse-related activities, they may also work with horses from the ground (liberty), groom, bathe, paint and decorate them!
In addition to our horse sessions, we also have sessions that focus on:
- woodworking
- gardening
- crafts
- ranch-related skills
- ranch chores
At MSR, we place a high value on work ethic. To that end, every session begins with a ranch chore. These can range from:
- poop-patrol (cleaning up after the horses)
- scrubbing water troughs
- pulling weeds
- cleaning the chicken coop
- planting, and harvesting in the garden
- pretty much anything that comes up in running a ranch!
Through our chore times we desire to impart life-skills and an appreciation for a job well done. We love to see our ranch kiddos taking ownership in the part they play at the ranch!

Sessions and Equine Rescue
Our founders have a long history of involvement in rescuing horses from abuse and neglect. They understand the powerful impact rehabilitating these horses can have on a child who is hurting. Because of this, we look for opportunities to involve session children in the process of bringing healing to the broken horses who come to the ranch. There is no more powerful illustration we know of to show God’s great love for us, and His mercy extended to every broken soul than the ones we experience when we extend love and mercy to a horse that has no reason to trust again, but choses trust over fear.
